Leave a lasting gift

We know it’s not an easy thing to think about, but it’s important to have a plan in place for when you die. Writing a Will ensures that your final wishes can be actioned as you would want, and that your family and friends are supported after your death.

Your family and friends will always come first, but you might like to consider including a gift to Buddies for All in your Will. With greater rates of social isolation and loneliness within the disabled community, with approximately 24% of the population having some type of disability, the need for our support and services has never been greater - a gift in your Will, even a small one, can provide support and hope for tomorrow for the disabled community.

Your kindness can help us to break down the stigma of disability and social isolation and support disabled people to access their local community.

FAQs

I’m not going to have much left to leave my family, so there won’t be anything left to gift!

Even a small gift can really make a difference, and you don’t need to be leaving lots of money or assets in your Will to look after your family and provide a meaningful gift – there are different types of gift:

  • A pecuniary gift is a fixed amount of money, for example £50, £1,000 or any specified amount you want to leave.

  • A specific gift is a specific item, such as personal possessions, shares or land.

  • And a residuary gift is a percentage or share of what’s left over once all your other payments or gifts have been made to your beneficiaries (your family) – an example of this could be that you decide to leave 45% of your money and assets to child number 1, 45% to child number 2 and the remaining 10% to Buddies for All.

The great thing about leaving residuary gifts is that it aligns with inflation and won’t lose interest over time.

How do I include a gift for Buddies for All?

Leaving a gift in your Will can be done by speaking to your Will writer or solicitor when you write your Will, or by adding an amendment to your existing Will. We highly recommend consulting a legal advisor, Will writing service, or solicitor to ensure that all legalities are covered in your Will and that it is valid.

To include Buddies for All in your Will you need to include the following wording:

I give to Buddies for All of 29 Grace Path, London, England, SE26 4SF, registered company number 13246508, ______ % of the residue of my estate/£___ [specified amount] absolutely for its general charitable purposes.

Find out how to write or update your Will here, including how to make sure it’s legal. For a list of Will writing services or solicitors near you, take a look at websites such as The Law Society or WillFinda*.

Do I need to tell Buddies for All if I decide to leave a gift in my Will?

No – you don’t need to do anything further other than make sure we’re listed fully (see above) for your generous gift to reach us, but if you do decide to leave a gift to Buddies for All in your Will, we would love the opportunity to thank you and to share how your kindness today will be having an impact on our future work. If you’d be happy for us to thank you, please email us at david@buddiesforall.org.uk.

Funeral Collections

Collect donations maybe instead of having flowers at your loved one’s funeral. Some funeral directors may help arrange this at the funeral for you and send in donations to Buddies for All on your behalf. Otherwise you can send us the donations through our online donation form. Some people also choose to set up a tribute page through online donation platforms, such as JustGiving Crowdfunder or GoFundMe, and share the link ahead of the funeral which make collecting donations at a funeral much easier.
